12:30 p.m. Crisler Center opens for graduate and guest entry | 2:00 p.m. ceremony begins
At the University of Michigan, Winter Commencement is a festive, campus-wide event where undergraduates, master’s degree recipients, and PhD candidates are recognized. It is also where honorary degrees are conferred.
All graduates who would like to attend the ceremony must redeem a graduate ticket.
All graduates and guests entering the arena, along with their belongings, are subject to search. Guests are encouraged to travel lightly to expedite their entry into the facility.
Be sure to check the permitted and prohibited items lists before arriving at Crisler Center. No purses, bags, wristlets, or cases of any size will be allowed in Crisler Center. Exceptions will be granted for medical and diaper bags only.
It’s our goal to make this a truly memorable day for you—and those who supported you along the way. If you have any questions or concerns that are not answered on this site, please contact the Office of University and Development Events at [email protected] or (734) 647-7900.
Please note: Students graduating in Fall 2026 are eligible to participate in either the Winter Commencement Ceremony (December 2026) or the Spring Commencement Ceremony (May 2027).
Eligible students will automatically receive email communications regarding the Winter Commencement. If you intend to participate in the Spring Commencement, you may disregard those messages. Information about the Spring Commencement will automatically be sent to your UMICH email address next semester.
